Applies To:

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (IIS 6) and later

Background:

For web content to be delivered correctly from a Windows server, especially with the advent of mobile and HTML5, "MIME Types" must be setup in IIS. Many MIME types are already in the default IIS setup, however some are not and must be manually added. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open the IIS Manager
  2. Right click the [servername] node and select "Properties"
  3. Select "HTTP Headers Tab" > "MIME Types..."
  4. Click "New"
  5. Enter and add the necessary Extensions and related MIME Types listed below
  6. Restart IIS when all the MIME Types have been entered

For more info or different Windows Server (IIS 7+) versions, see TechNet.
