Guide to Security Questions in Inquisiq

Inquisiq now allows you to allow or require your users to create security questions that they will have to answer if they forget their password and click the “I forgot my password” link on the login page.

NOTE: This feature is ONLY available if your users are allowed to retrieve their own lost passwords. To allow your users to retrieve their own passwords, from the Administrator Menu, click “Login Setup,” and check the box next to “Forgot Password.”

In Login Setup, under “Security Questions,” you can either have them Disabled, Enabled or Required. If the questions are Enabled, your users have the option of having security questions to reset their forgotten passwords, but they don’t need them. If the questions are Required, your users will be required to set up security questions in order to reset their forgotten passwords.

For your users to set up their security questions, they need to go to their “My Account” page, and click on the lock icon at the top of the page. They will be able to set up three questions.

NOTE: When the security questions window is re-opened after setting up the questions, they will appear to have been cleared. Don’t worry. The security questions have been set, so long as you saw the green “Done” message. They are cleared from the window for security purposes – if someone were to gain access to your device and be able to see your account, we don’t want them to be able to see the answers to your security questions.

Once your users set their security questions, if they forget their password, here is how they will reset their passwords:

  1. Click the “I forgot my password” link, either on the Home Page or by clicking the “Log In” button in the top right corner of the screen, and then click the link.
  2. Put in your username, and you will then be sent an email.
  3. Open the email and click the link in the email message. This link is only good for 15 minutes.
  4. You will be brought to a page where you will be prompted to answer one of three possible security questions, and then enter your new password twice.

NOTE: Security Question answers ARE case sensitive!

If your users do not set up their security questions when they are Required, and they click the “I forgot my password” link, after they give their username, a message will tell them that they need to contact the administrator. When security questions are required, users are not allowed to reset their passwords without those questions set up.

For this reason, if you set Security Questions to Required, you should notify your users of the change, and instruct them to set up their security questions.
